Lungs

breathe-dr-rath

The lungs are composed of a network of tubular structures of various diameters which form multiple branches. These air-exchanging tubes are built of smooth muscle cells and their internal lining is made of a thin layer of endothelial cells. Smooth muscle cells allow lung tubules to contract and relax independently assuring uninterrupted airflow in the lungs and keeping air passages open.

In order to function optimally all cells building our lungs need to receive a constant supply of essential nutrients. Among them, the amino acid Arginine is important as the source of natural ‘relaxing factors’. A proper mineral balance of magnesium, calcium, and potassium is also important to support optimum contraction and relaxation of smooth muscle cells. Chronic deficiency of these nutrients can lead to spasms of the smooth muscle cells causing constriction of air passages and a variety of symptoms related to those systems.

Similar types of cells also build our blood vessel walls, gastrointestinal tract, gall bladder and reproductive and urinary tract tubules. An optimal supplementation of cellular nutrients will not only positively affect the function of air passages in the lungs, but will also support the elasticity and optimum relaxation of blood vessels and all other organs built of smooth muscle cells.

Therefore a combination of vitamins, minerals, and essential nutrients present in the Dr. Rath Healthy Blood Pressure Synergy Formula will also benefit everyone concerned with supporting lung capacity and healthy breathing.*

  • Key Synergy Nutrients: Vitamin C, Arginine, Chondroitin Sulfate, N-Acetyl-D-Glucosamine, L-Lysine, L-Proline and many others.

Vitamin C and Citrus bioflavonoids:  Vitamin C is needed for the production of prostacyclins, which support blood vessel relaxation and normal blood viscosity. Vitamin C in a form of mineral ascorbates is gentle on the stomach. Citrus bioflavonoids support many functions of vitamin C in the body, including healthy blood vessel function.

Arginine:  Arginine is the only source of nitric oxide (NO) in the human body. Nitric oxide acts as the ‘relaxing factor’ for blood vessel walls and therefore it is important in maintaining healthy blood pressure levels. Arginine is a ‘conditionally essential’ amino acid.

Magnesium:  Magnesium is required for the production of prostaglandins, which have a significant impact on contraction and relaxation of blood vessels. In addition, optimum interaction of magnesium with calcium and other minerals is important for maintaining normal blood pressure. Magnesium reduces intracellular sodium thus regulating the levels of sodium, potassium and calcium within the cells.

Garlic Extract (Allicin): Allicin is the sulfur containing compound present in garlic. In addition to its antioxidant properties, allicin acts as a direct vasodilator through its ability to activate nitric oxide synthetase (NOS), the enzyme which produces nitric oxide (NO), and contributes to the relaxation of blood vessels.

Rooibos Tea:  Rooibos tea is rich in antioxidants, is caffeine-free, and is low in tannins. Rooibos tea also supports blood vessel relaxation.

Green Tea Extract: Polyphenols in green tea support flexibility of blood vessel walls for vessel relaxation. They function as antioxidant agents inactivating free radicals.

Curcumin: Supports blood flow and the elasticity of blood vessels.
